The Association of Medical Specialists (AMS) said Sunday that none of its members will participate in trade union action announced by the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA), distancing itself from a planned escalation of actions starting Monday (2).
Dr. Ashoka Gunaratne, media spokesperson for the AMS, said all specialist doctors would continue performing their duties as usual on Monday. His remarks came after the GMOA said it would intensify ongoing trade union action beginning Monday, citing the government’s failure to respond positively to its demands.
GMOA Secretary Dr. Prabath Sugathadasa said specialist doctors in hospitals across the country had planned to join the action from Monday. However, Dr. Ashoka Gunaratne rejected that claim, reiterating that no members of the Association of Medical Specialists would take part in the protest. (NewsWire)
