Spinster robbed of Rs.2.5 Mn in Wellawatte, drug addicts from Ratmalana suspected
Two men had entered through the toilet window, of a house on Anula Road, Wellawatte and assaulted the resident, a 78-year-old spinster who had worked in an insurance company scared her and robbed her of Rs. 2.5 million and fled through the living room window.
Narahenpita Police said that this robbery took place on February 28 night.She was admitted to the Colombo National Hospital that night due to the shock caused by the assault and intimidation.
The police said that this woman is an unmarried woman. She lived alone in her house in Wellawatte. The police also stated that her brother’s son who had come from Homagama Habarakada had complained to the police day before yesterday (1) about this robbery.
According to the complaint, the two thieves had entered the house through the window of the toilet, attacked the woman, placed her on the bed in the room and threatened her asking for gold
items. According to the police, after she had said that she did not have any gold items, they had checked every corner of the house including the cupboards and wardrobes and then found Rs. 2.5 million in cahs that she had hidden in a cupboard of the house.
Investigations have revealed that the robbers had escaped with the cash by opening a front window of the house. When the victim of the robbery had been questioned she had said that she had kept this money at home to buy a land for cultivation. During the interrogation, she had mentioned that she had taken the amount of Rs. 2.5 million in cash from the bank in February last year.
The Police said that the security camera system in this house has clearly recorded the robbers entering the house and fleeing.
According to investigations carried out based on the security camera footage, it has been revealed that two drug addicts residing in Kandawala Ratmalana had broken into this house.
According to the police, they are both around 21 years.The Wellawatta Police stated that they are currently absconding and investigations are underway to arrest them.
