The National Dengue Control Unit states that the spread of dengue has increased by 30 percent.
The unit states that 684 dengue cases were reported in the 40th week from October 2 to 8 and 526 in the 39th week,
which is an increase of 30 percent in the 40th week compared to the 39th week. 146 dengue infected people have been reported from Colombo district alone and 48.2% of the total infected people have been reported from the Western Province.
Health medical officers have identified 16 divisions as dengue high risk areas and Piliyandala, Moratuwa, Attanagalla, Kelaniya, Dompe, Ragama, Gampola, Kundasale, Udunuwara, Matale, Badulla have been identified as dengue high risk areas. Since the beginning of this year, 65,479 dengue cases and 39 deaths have been reported.
Doctors say that if a person has fever for more than two days, it is suspected to be dengue and should be treated by a qualified doctor.
The Health Ministry said that by maintaining the environment so that mosquitoes cannot breed, the breeding of dengue mosquitoes can be controlled and thus the number of dengue infected people can be reduced.
