Sri Lanka go out with confidence against India today

0 7

Sri Lanka having won 13 ODI ‘ s will go out with confidence against India in the Super four game of Asia Cup cricket tournament which will be played today at the R Premadasa International cricket stadium.

We changed our combinations during last Zimbabwe tour for the the world cup qualifying cricket tournament which brought about success said Sri Lanka Assistant coach and batting specialist coach Naveed Nawaz yesterday. However weather could be the deciding factor once again today.

We had some up and downs while getting good exposure before the World cup and Asia Cup is very good experience added former Sri Lanka player and one time National under 19 coach for Sri Lanka and Bangladesh Nawaz.

I am happy my players of Bangladesh under 19 are playing for National team at international cricket and Sri Lanka junior players doing really well at National level.

Dimuth Karunaratne really played well on Zimbabwe tour. He had a few failures but hope he will be in top form very soon. Kusal Janith Perera also fighting to enter the final eleven and it’s very clear our bench strength is very high. Today our players realize their responsibility and without performing they can not retain their place in National team.

Already we have identified young prospect Matheesha Pathirana and guide him well. our first five batters are among the runs. Sadeera Samarawickrama has good strike rate and his form is very vital. We have to give good support and protect this type of players.

Talking about number 6-7 batting position Dhananjaya de Silva and skipper Dasun Shanaka had a bad patch but we know both of them will come back soon. Dhananjaya played really well in Zimbabwe while still he has not used his full potential while skipper Dasun Shanaka also fighting to regain his form. If both Dasun Shanaka and Dhananjaya de Silva are among the runs we have good batters from 1 to 7 position and this set up is very good for next world cup added Naveed Nawaz.

Meanwhile Sri Lanka most probably will come back to the game without any changsbut India which was scheduled to play their key game against Pakistan have to play back to back matches yesterday and today.

Wasim Akram praises ground staff

Wasim Akram the former Pakistan Skipper and legendary left arm paceman highly appreciated about R.Premadasq International Stadium ground staff. They are doing a tremendous job to make good wicket and the outfield and we saw same at Pallekele but we can’t control the weather and hope better cricket during their forthcoming matches added Wasim Akram.

Meanwhile Indie led by Rohit Sharma has to play back to back matches yesterday Pakistan game while today once again against Sri Lanka.India has huge challenge to play back to back matches in these conditions and this is the nature of cricket and they couldn’t reach at least the final last time in UAE but despite bad weather India is aiming to get full pointe to enter the final.

Sri Lanka team hope to observe the wicket today but due to inclement weather most of the times whole ground is covered and ground staff of R.Premadasa International cricket stadium headed by chief curator Godfrey Dabrare and his team have done an excellent job to make the wicket as well as outfield.

Poor attendance at Super Four matches

Meanwhile there were very poor crowd to see India – Pakistan Super Four game on Sunday which was called off and continued yesterday.

Earlier Asia Cricket Council stated higher charges for tickets but last moment they reduced the tickets prize C- D upper new price 1000 rupees each whil C- D lower seats 500 rupees each but this reduction is only for super four matches stated ACC. Due to weather and high rate of ticket prices crowd was nearly 4500 on Sunday match but R.Premadasa International cricket stadium crowd capacity is 32000 and disappointing crowd for these matches.
