Health experts have urged the public to drink plenty of water and take precautions as high temperatures continue to affect parts of Sri Lanka.
Consultant Paediatrician Dr. Deepal Perera of the Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children in Colombo said frequent water intake is important to prevent dehydration during the current hot weather.
He also advised people to consume fresh fruit juices such as king coconut, lime, orange, mandarin and pomegranate, as well as traditional porridge varieties.
Dr. Perera recommended wearing light-coloured cotton clothing, limiting exposure to direct sunlight and staying in shaded areas to reduce the effects of the heat.
He further advised people to bathe several times a day or keep the body cool by wetting the skin with water.
According to the doctor, outdoor activities should be limited particularly between 11.00 a.m. and 3.00 p.m., when heat levels are highest, and those working outdoors should take regular breaks in shaded areas.
Dr. Perera also warned that excessive heat could lead to dehydration, headaches, vomiting and fatigue, especially among children and the elderly, urging the public to seek medical advice if health issues arise. (Newswire)
