Sri Lanka lose to Kenya; Bangladesh to defend title
The Sri Lanka men’s Kabaddi team lost to Kenya in their semi-final (29-49) at the Bangabandhu Cup International Kabaddi Tournament, yesterday, at the Shaheed Noor Hossain National Volleyball Stadium in Dhaka. However, the new-look Sri Lanka team packed with more youngsters made a good display throughout the tournament to reach the semi-final stage by defeating Malaysia and England and their fight against defending champions Bangladesh in a close finish which Bangladesh finally won by a margin of 2 points lead.
Sri Lanka finished second in the group with 4 points had to face a tough challenge against defending runner-up Kenya at the semi-final. At halftime, Kenya led 26-12 while the second half saw Kenya once again dominate the game to finish with 49-29 to enter the final.
Meanwhile, in the second semi-final, Bangladesh made a 55-36 win over Iraq to enter the final. At halftime, Bangladesh was leading 30-17. The final between Bangladesh and Kenya is scheduled to play today (24) while the two teams were the same opponents as last year’s final which was won by Bangladesh.
