Sri Lanka secured the Bronze Medal at the 2022 Central Asian Volleyball Association (CAVA) Men’s Under-23 Volleyball Championship, which concluded at the Shaheed Suhrawardi National Indoor Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka, Bangladesh on Monday.
The Sri Lankan junior spikers put up a fine performance as they came from behind to beat Nepal 22-25, 25-19, 25-19, 20-25, 15-10 in the third-place playoff. Sri Lanka who had earlier defeated the same opponents in straight sets in a preliminary round fixture, were made to fight until the end before they snatched the consolation final in a thriller.
The imposing figure of Shanuka Madubashana was the star of the show in this tough match as he gained an excellent five points from blocks and 13 spikes in a personal haul of 18 points.
However, it was the Player-of-the-Match Kavishka Madushanka who led the Sri Lanka’s scorers with a magnificent 24 points including 23 attacks.
The Sri Lanka Under-23 Volleyball Team included Ruchira Sampath (Captain), Sujith Thilanka, Lahiru Madhuwantha, Praneeth Dinendra, Ashen Malintha, Deneth Hansana, Lahiru Pramuditha, Sachitha Malith, Shanuka Madubashana, Dulanjan Sandeepa, Kavishka Madushanka and Naveen Kaushalya.
