At the 2024 Induction and Graduation Ceremony of the Institute of Sri Lanka Engineering (IESL) Eng. (Prof.) A. Atputharajah, Vice Chancellor, University of Vavuniya, who participated as the chief guest said that Sri Lanka should also join hands with the rapid technological development in the world’s engineering fields, and “ all of us as engineers should find new ways to bring value to those technologies to the country.”
Eng. (Prof.) Ranjith Dissanayake, President of IESL, mentioned that engineers have a huge role to play in the recovery process of the country. He encouraged the engineers to embrace the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead with determination and ambition. The Induction and Graduation Ceremony 2024 of the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL) was held on July 23, 2024 at the BMICH Main Hall. Eng. (Prof.) A. Atputharajah, Vice Chancellor, University of Vavuniya, was the chief guest at the event. Associate Members of the Institute who successfully completed the Professional Review procedure were elevated to the status of Chartered Engineers, a prestigious position recognized throughout the country. 129 new Chartered Engineers were inducted this year. In addition, students who passed the IESL exams received their graduation certificates. Further 137 engineers received their International Professional Engineer certificates at the event. Winners of the IESL competitions for Engineering Undergraduates (Migara Ratnatunga Trust Awards and Eng. E.W. Karunarathna Awards) were also recognized.
The Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL) established in 1956 was the successor to the then Engineering Association of Ceylon which was founded in 1906 at Anuradhapura by a few dedicated engineers serving in the public sector. In 1968, the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka was made an incorporated body of the Government by an act of parliament.
The activities of IESL have become broader and diversified with time. One of the key functions of IESL is to ensure the quality standards of engineering professionals practicing in Sri Lanka, by conducting Professional Review of suitably qualified members for the status of ‘Chartered Engineer’ and ‘International Professional Engineer.
