“Sri Lanka will offer free visa on arrival to 38 countries”

Sri Lanka will offer free visa on arrival to 38 countries and will adopt the Singapore free on arrival visa system ‘one chop system’ , said Chief Government Whip and Minister of Urban Development and Housing Prasanna Ranatunga (PICTURED) in parliament yesterday.

“This decision will be a very good one for the advancement of the tourism industry in this country.”

The Sri Lanka government had earlier offered this facility to several countries including India, Maldives, Russia, China, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia. Later the government decided to extend this to 35 countries and an effective date was set for October 1.

“However a decision was made at the last Cabinet meeting to implement this immediately.”

The travel industry says that this is a very good move and is implemented at a time when the tourism season is about to begin.
