0 2

SSC, the group leader, will face Bloomfield in their crucial Major Clubs limited overs cricket tournament match at Bloomfield Grounds on Reid Avenue today. Nine Major Club matches are scheduled in Colombo and its suburbs.

The unbeaten SSC team, led by Charith Asalanka, aims to maintain their winning form. Bloomfield led by Niupn Karunanayae, has the home advantage, making it a challenging match for the SSC team. SSC’s strong batting lineup includes Avishka Fernando and Danushka Gunatilleka, both returning after serving a punishment in the last game.

Experienced players like skipper Charith Asalanka, Dasun Shanaka the former National white ball skipper, and Nuwanidu Fernando pose a big challenge for Bloomfield’s bowlers. Hard-hitting Dasun Shanaka is in terrific form with back-to-back blistering knocks as a number 7 batter, and Bloomfield anticipates his early wicket today.

Coached by Tharanga Dhammika, Bloomfield will bring new strategies to today’s game. Despite missing their young bowler Asitha Wanninayake due to injury, the youthful Ballomfield side is expected to take early wickets against SSC.

SSC paceman led by Nisala Tharaka, Dasun Shanaka along with key spinner Prabath Jayasuriya, is well-supported by skipper and off-spinner Charith Asalanka and Kavindu Nadeeshan. Part-time bowlers Nuwanindu Fernando, Dhanishka Gunatilleka will play their roles as required.

Bloomfield, currently fourth on the points table with 7 points and two wins, eyes this game to move up and secure a spot in the semi-finals.

Key players like openers Sandun Weerakkody and Hasitha Boyagoda, newcomer skipper Nipun Karunanayake (filling in for number three batter Asitha Wanniniyake, former St. Anthony’s Katugastota all-rounder), and all-rounder Lahiru Madushanka are all in good batting form. Leg spinners Jeffery Vandersay, Sahan Nanayakkara, Manelka de Silva and experienced Lahiru Madushanka lead Bloomfield’s bowling attack.

Meanwhile, the National Selection Committee plans a practice game on December 30 (Saturday) at the R. Premadasa Stadium.

The selected 22 pool players who are involved in this Major Club Limited overs Tournament will prioritize national duty, and they won’t be available for club matches after today’s fixtures.

The Major Clubs limited-over semi-finals are scheduled for January 13, with the final set for January 16. The National Super League (NSL) kicks off on January 18, one day after the Major Club limited-over final.
