Stablise price or we will fix a price, CAA tells egg producers and wholesalers

Consumer Affairs Authority’s Raids and Special Investigation Unit Director Sanjaya Irasinghe said that the controlled price will be imposed on eggs if efforts are not made by both producers and wholesalers to maintain the egg prices in a proper manner.

He said this is a troublesome issue that disturbs the producers as well as the wholesale trade and requested the concerned parties to maintain the egg price properly without increasing it.

He further said that the egg producers will be called again and the cost of producing an egg will be shown to them and the relevant controlled price will be fixed. Since it is the retailer who is constantly unconvinced due to not maintaining the egg price properly, he said that he will issue a gazette notice imposing the controlled price related to the producer and the wholesaler.

He further said that he has already instructed his officials to release the eggs stored by the producers to the market in order to get a high profit during the upcoming festival season and said that they are working to set a controlled price for rice as well.
