State Minister of Defence Hon. Premitha Bandara Tennakoon declared open the ‘Dambulu Poson Zone 2024’ in Dambulla at the auspicious hour yesterday evening (Jun 21). The Poson Zone held under the concept of State Minister Tennakoon and the guidance of the Maha Sangha is being organized by the Dambulla Divisional Secretariat at Nissanka Mawatha in Dambulla.
In keeping with local tradition, the ceremony, held on Poson Poya Day, which commemorates Mahinda Thero’s arrival and introduction of Buddhism to Sri Lanka was presided by the State Minister and Member of Parliament Hon. Janaka Bandara Tennakoon.
The Dambulu Poson Zone is being held under the coordination of the Dambulla Divisional Secretariat and with the participation of all state institutions, private firms and members of the tri forces, police and Civil Security Department. The stretch of road from Nissanka Ground Junction to Courts Junction is illuminated with colourful lanterns, light decorations and a pandal on 21st & 22nd (June).
Maha Sangha, senior state officials, armed forces and police officers and a large number of people were present at the opening ceremony.
Devotees are invited to visit the ‘Dambulu Poson Zone’ to witness and enjoy the ornate and colourfully illumined lanterns and other traditional decorative items on display.
