Student addicted to computer games tries stunt, escapes death

A student of a popular school in Jaffna, who was addicted to computer games, tried to kill himself yesterday (14) by jumping  from a building several stories high as mentioned in one of the games. A group of teachers and students had seen the student moving in an abnormal manner in the multi-story building and while they were watching, the student suddenly jumped from the multi-storey building.

Fortunately, since he got entangled in an old system of electric wires which had no power and took a while to fall, teachers and students were able to rescue the injured student who suffered minor injuries and take him to the hospital with the help of an ambulance.When the bag he brought to school that day was checked, teachers found a 7-page letter written by him stating information about his life and computer games. He had mentioned that he has to accept a certain challenge given to him by the people who are engaged in that computer game and this student who had accepted the challenge had jumped from the school building consisting of several floors.

The Jaffna Police are conducting investigations into the incident.
