Suhiru Anthony will lead CR and FC this season

Suhiru Anthony will lead Ceylonese Rugby and Football Club (CR & FC) at the Nippon Paint Sri Lanka Rugby Major League XV-a-side Rugby Tournament schedule to commence on 1st December.

The last season knock out champions, CR & FC will surge into this years tournament at full strength and tipped as one of the strong contenders to win both the league and the knockout tournament. They are led by one of the dynamic players the former Peterite Suhiru Anthony. He will be jubilant to lead the Longden place club which has a strength of 44 players in the pool. According to club sources they have retained majority of their last year players except for few who crossed over to other clubs.However, the unique feature of this year’s squad is that they will have the services of some of the iconic players who competed in the recently concluded Inter school tournament representing schools from the top tier namely St.Peters, Bambalapitiya, Isipatana, Zahira, Colombo and St.Anthonys, Kandy. Adeesha Weeratunga (Navy), Sugath Nanayakkara (CH) and Eranga Ariyapala and Randy de Silva who both donned the Havelocks jersey last season have crossed over to lock horns for CR.

Meanwhile, the person behind their success story is their indefatigable coach Dushanth Lewke who has been their “Think Tank”. He was instrumental in moulding a young outfit to a major winning force with a herculean task vested on him in the last few years. He always believes in team building and has shown his credentials locally with his school Royal , club CR and with the Sri Lanka National team at the recently concluded Asian Games Sevens tournament in a short stint.

Nevertheless, this season is going to be a new episode for him and his club will no doubt expect to fire in all cylinders to grab all the titles on offer to regain the past glory. Lasintha de Costa will assist Lewke as the back division coach.CR will scrum down with Army SC in their first match on the 2nd December at Panagoda.
