Suspect and family arrested at BIA

The suspect who had fled after firing a T56 into the air near a cinnamon factory in Katuwila on the Ahungalla-Uragaha Road was arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), Katunayake on Saturday.

The suspect had arrived at the BIA with his wife and child to go to Dubai. The wife had also been arrested and the child had been handed over to relatives. The suspect and his wife are residents of Welikanda, Ahungalla. The shooting took place around 11.30 p.m. on December 13. Police found 27 used bullets at the scene. The suspect had arrived at the scene in a hired Wagan R vehicle.

Police investigations are continuing to find out how the suspect received the firearm and to what purpose he intended to use it.
