Suspension of Police Constable Driver

Superintendent of Police in charge of the Moneragala Division (i) L. A. D. Ratnaweera has taken steps to suspend the services of a Police driver Lakmal Ratnayake PC attached to Dambagalla Police Station, with immediate effect from September 27. Police constable driver 18689 R.M. Kasun Lakmal Ratnayake has been suspended. He had consumed alcohol while he was on duty, and had not reported to duty on time.

Although he was on duty he had not reported for work, at his discretion. While intoxicated in the charge room, and behaving erratically, Inspector Wasantha Ananda had tried to arrest him, when he began protesting and had tried to assault the officer by grabbing him by the throat on two occasions. This suspension has been carried out in accordance with the powers conferred by Government Gazette No. 2341/51 of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka for acting in a manner that brought disrepute to the public service as per Section XLVII Chapter 31:1:10 of the Institutions Code.
