The Best Corporate Citizen Sustainability Awards (BCCS) are a focal point of the Chamber’s efforts to encourage corporate to focus on sustainability.

“To this end, we believe that leadership at the highest levels of companies is vital to spurring this change,” said Chairman Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, Duminada Hulangamuwa at the 20th consecutive 2023 to recognize corporate sustainability in Sri Lanka.

“Focal areas of the competition include environment, customer relations, community relations, governance, financial performance, and economic contribution, with applications evaluated by national experts in the Sustainability sector.Twenty years ago, the Awards were conceptualised to encourage the private sector to focus on Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives.”

“Over the years, in keeping with the increasing need to ensure sustainability in corporate best practices in order to ensure overarching accountability, the Awards shifted more focused to sustainability aspects (3Ps; Planet, People and Profit) encouraging Sri Lanka corporate to incorporate these aspects into corporate business strategy, and then named the Best Corporate Citizen Sustainability (BCCS) Award.

As the premier representative of the private sector, the Chamber’s initiatives such as the BCCS Awards demonstrate leadership in sustainability efforts, encouraging companies to continually adopt new tools and best practices.

He said that they were pleased to note that they received the highest number of applications of over 90 for the event.

Meanwhile Talawakelle Tea Estates won the coveted ‘Best Corporate Citizen Sustainability Award 2023’. Aitken Spence and Nestlé Lanka were adjudged the first and second runners up respectively.

The annual BCCS Awards is the premier corporate citizenship award, and highlights sustainability champions in the national corporate arena.

The Awards promote corporate citizen sustainability ownership and initiatives that deliver social and environmental benefits while pursuing profits. United Nations Resident Coordinator in Sri Lanka Marc-André Franche, was the Chief Guest.
