Teacher who pursued chain snatchers meets with accident

A female teacher who pursued two thieves who snatched her gold chain, met with an accident and was hospitalized in a serious condition.

She met with this accident when she was travelling on the Mahawewa, Kudawewa road together with her husband, on a motorcycle. She is a teacher working at a school in Koswadiya, Marawila. The Thoduwawa Police said that the chain that had been stolen was valued at around Rs. 150,000.

The teacher had been on her way home with her husband after school, when two thieves had followed them on a motorcycle and had snatched the gold chain off her neck and fled.

Subsequently, the couple had pursued the two thieves on their motorcycle and it had veered off the road due to the high speed at which it was travelling. The teacher had been injured in the accident and was admitted to the Marawila Hospital.

The two thieves had been wearing helmets and masks.

The Thoduwawa Police said that investigations are being conducted to take into custody the thieves and footage from security cameras on either side of the road is also being inspected to help identify them.
