Teenage suicide in Badulla

A 16-year-old girl of Badulla has committed suicide over an alleged sexual abuse by her 20-year-old boyfriend. The deceased victim has been living with her 70-year-old grandmother, after her father had abandoned her mother even before the birth of his daughter. Subsequently, her mother had found employment overseas, leaving her growing child in the care of her grandmother, according to Badulla Police.

Police Investigations have revealed that the suspected lover of the teenager had taken the victim to Kite Mountain in Badulla a few weeks ago and the teenage victim had left home under the pretext of attending tuition class.After returning home, the victim had informed her friend via an SMS of the sexual abuse by her boy friend and then had consumed some medications used by her grandmother, distraught over the incident.

The teenage girl was rushed to the Badulla Hospital in a critical condition where she passed away after admission. The Badulla Police has arrested the 20-year-old boyfriend of the victim on suspicion and he was set to be produced in court yesterday (07).
