Ten robbers disguised as cops arrested in Horana

The police say that they have arrested ten members of an organized gang who disguised themselves as police officers and robbed houses in 10 police divisions looting property including gold and jewellery worth Rs.10 million.

Police say that the person who bought looted gold is also among the arrested persons.Four motorcycles used in robberies, five suits made with police badges, two three-wheelers bought with robbed money, protective helmets used in robberies, and several sharp weapons and firearms have also been captured by police.

As a result of investigations carried out on the instructions of the Senior Superintendent of Police in charge of Panadura Division,Samantha Wedage, a former army soldier named Galoluwa, a resident of Angampitiya, Padukka was arrested. Police say that he led the organized gang and he was arrested in the Pokunuwita area in Horana along with more than ten grams of drugs. The other suspects are residents of areas including Horana, Haltota and Polgasovita.

During the lengthy questioning after the person was presented to the Horana court and the arrest order was obtained, the suspect revealed about robberies carried out in Millaniya, Kahathuduwa, Aguruwathota, Padukka, Kosgama, Bulathsinhala, Bandaragama, Kirindiwela, Ingiriya and Kahathuduwa police areas in the past few months.

He said that the gang broke into the houses in the guise of police officers. During the interrogation of the prime suspect, the police were able to arrest the people who were directly involved in the robberies and spied on them, as well as the person who bought the looted gold items. According to the police, they have prepared and worn clothes similar to police sports uniforms during robberies. The suspects will be produced before the Horana Magistrate’s Court
