Sebastianites led by Tharusha Fernando came up with a superb bowling effort to restrict strong Colts CC and earned first innings points to qualify for the final at the Major Club Emerging 3 day cricket semi final cricket fixture ended at the P. Sara Oval Stadium on Sunday . The third and final day, Sunday was washed out with not a single over being bowled while Sebastianites were ahead of first innings lead to enter the final.
Sebastianites were managed to get 142 runs in their first innings with opener Sadun Fernando was the only successful batter scoring 46 with 4 fours. However Colts CC packed with strong batting line up made a disappointed batting display as they were bowled out for 113 runs. Sebastinaites had a 29-run first innings lead. The ambidextrous spinner Tharindu Ratnayake was the chief wreaker for Sebastianites taking 4 for 34 while Thehan Schaffter and skipper Tharusha Fernando took 3 wickets each making good supporting role to remove Colts cheaply.
However Colts CC skipper paceman Jehan Daniel made a valiant effort taking 5 for 32 as Sebastianites second innings were reeling 52 for 6 wickets in just 10.2 overs after end of the second day’s play to fight back for the outright win. But their expectations went in vain as heavy rain halted the entire third day while Sebastianites get first innings points to enter the final.
Sebastianites will now meet Tamil Union in the final which is scheduled to be commenced on the April 22 at the SSC Grounds.
