Gampaha Division Criminal Investigation Division says that three persons, including a retired disabled Army soldier, were arrested in Nagawanarama Road, Nadagamuwa on the evening of August 31, as they had three pieces of amber (preserved sea whale vomit), weighing two kg and 646 grams, which was ready to be sold for Rs. eight million.
A 28-year-old resident of Nagawanarama Road,Nadagamuwa, a 48-year-old retired Army soldier with disabilities and a 29-year-old resident of Kalagedihena have been arrested.
According to the information received by the officers of the Western Provincial Intelligence Division that a stock of high-value amber is for sale, a team including Kosala Liyanarachchi, OIC of the Gampaha Criminal Investigation Division, arrested these suspects and the property with the support of an agent.
According to the police, information has been revealed that the suspects have bought the amber from a person in Negombo.Police also stated that this amber was found in parts weighing 164 grams, 812 grams and 670 grams.
