Police officers from the Badulla and Lunugala stations arrested three people including a Deputy Principal of a school in the Lunugala district who had cheated large sums of money from foreign employment seekers while promising lucrative jobs. The Police said they had posed as close associates of a Minister while engaging in this racket.
Badulla Senior Superintendent of Police Sujith Vedamulla said that the Deputy Principal was arrested by the Lunugala Police while a tailor and a plantation worker were arrested by the Badulla Police. The SSP said that a number of complaints have been received by the Police from residents in the Badulla, Lunugala, Passara, Haliela, Bandarawela and Madulsima areas that they have been cheated after promising to provide jobs in Dubai.
On February 12, four people from the Bandarawela area who had gone to the Deputy Principal’s house and attacked him over the job racket have also been arrested.
