Three of the four ACMC MPs pledge support to President
All Ceylon Makkal Congress (ACMC), Digamadulla District MP S.M.M. Muszhaaraff said that the All Ceylon Makkal Congress which previously labelled Sajith Premadasa as a racist has not clarified the basis for supporting him in the upcoming Presidential Election.
He also noted that the Muslim community does not approve of this decision.
The MP also stated that President Ranil Wickremesinghe will have the support of the Muslim community, regardless of the decisions made by party leaders.
MP Muszhaaraff, made this statement during a special press conference held in Colombo yesterday (15).
Anuradhapura District MP Ishaq Rahuman, from the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) representing the ACMC led by Rishad Bathiudeen, along with ACMC Digamadulla District MP S.M.M. Muszhaaraff and Puttalam District MP Ali Sabry Rahim, held this special press conference to express their support for President Ranil Wickremesinghe in the upcoming Presidential Election.
It is significant that three of the four members of the All Ceylon Makkal Congress, led by MP Rishad Bathiudeen, have expressed their support for President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
The MP also noted that Sajith Premadasa failed to conduct a proper investigation into Rishad Bathiudeen while he was in prison, treating him as if he was a member of a different party.
MP S.M.M. Muszhaaraff further stated: Rishad Bathiudeen expressed his support for the Samagi Jana Balawegaya yesterday (14). However, today at a press conference, three of the four Members of Parliament from his party are supporting President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
Although Rishad Bathiudeen has stated his support for Sajith Premadasa, the Muslim community is backing President Ranil Wickremesinghe. The leader of our party claimed that their decision was based on consultations with people across the country. We, however, dispute this claim.
It is unclear on what basis our party, which previously labelled Mr. Sajith Premadasa as a racist, will now support him in the upcoming Presidential Election. Currently, Rishad Bathiudeen does not have sufficient influence within the party to redirect its support to President Ranil Wickremesinghe. Initially, Bathiudeen stated that the country should not regress and expressed confidence that only President Wickremesinghe could effectively lead and make decisions. He also promised to support President Wickremesinghe.
However, Rauf Hakeem has clearly stated his position without contradicting himself. Unlike Bathiudeen, Hakeem has not engaged in duplicity.
Despite Rishad Bathiudeen’s imprisonment, Sajith Premadasa failed to conduct even a proper investigation. When this was brought up, Sajith Premadasa dismissed us as supporters of another party. While Rishad Bathiudeen is aware that Ranil Wickremesinghe is a capable leader who can rebuild the country, he lacks the courage to openly support him. However, it’s uncertain whether he might eventually choose to back President Ranil Wickremesinghe at the last moment.
