Three teams probing VRI fraud

Three teams are investigating an alleged financial fraud running into millions of rupees, at the Veterinary Research Institute (VRI) belonging to the Department of Animal Production and Health.

Two teams have been appointed by the VRI to investigate and assess the loss incurred by it, and conduct a disciplinary inquiry against the officer concerned.

In addition, the Criminal Investigation Department has commenced an investigation on a complaint made by the Animal Production and Health Department in this regard.

VRI staff allege that, in the absence of the annual audit for many years, this financial fraud has been going on undetected for a long time.

On discovery of the fraud, the Internal Audit Unit of the Animal Production and Health Department of the Government Audit Division, has commenced an audit at the VRI.
