Thunderstorms expected in evening

The Department of Meteorology announces that showers will occur at times in the Eastern, Northern, North-Central, Central and Uva provinces and in the Hambantota district.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in other areas during the evening or night.

Fairly heavy showers of about 75 mm may occur at some places in the Eastern, North-Central, Uva and North-Western provinces.

Showers may also occur in the Western province and Galle and Matara districts during the morning.

Fairly strong winds of about (30-40) kmph may occur at times in the eastern slopes of the Central Hills and in the Northern, North-Central, Eastern and North-Western provinces and in the Hambantota and Moneragala districts.

The public is kindly requested to take necessary steps to minimize the risks of temporary strong winds and lightning that may occur with thunderstorms.
