TNA to elect leader on January 21

0 9

The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) has decided to have a vote to elect the party’s new leader on January 21, as three members are vying for the post. M.A. Sumanthiran MP, S. Shritharan MP and former Parliamentarian S. Yogeswaran, are vying for the TNA leader’s post.

Although TNA leader R. Sampanthan had requested the three contestants to have talks and solve the matter amicably to unanimously appoint a leader, such efforts have failed with the three TNA members failing to reach an agreement, party sources said.

The decision to appoint a new leader comes against the backdrop where both TNA leader R. Sampanthan and ITAK leader Mavai Senathirajah are set to retire from politics next year. All the members of the TNA central committee have been informed to participate in a meeting in Trincomalee on January 21 to elect a new leader through secret ballot.
