Top seeded shuttler Viren in action at Raipur today

Sri Lankan promising shuttler Viren Nettasinghe will play in the CM Trophy India International challenge Badminton tournament which will commence today (Oct 31) to November 5 at Raipur Chhattisgarh, India.

Viren the 20 year old shuttler had chance to play India International challenge Badminton tournament in Bangalore at Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy while he was able to reach quarter final and lost to Indian opponent after hard fought two setter game.

This Raipur tournament is going to be historic one for Viren the first Sri Lanka shuttler to be seeded number one in men’s singles event of the International tournament.Viren reached Raipur from Bangalore on Sunday and he got chance to train yesterday.

It is a great honour to be seeded number one shuttler at this tournament and that’s according to my present world ranking number (Viren presently world rank 80). However I never think about it and never make any pressure and try to go forward with my full effort said Nettasinghe.

The players from Vietnam, Canada, Ukraine, USA, Zambia, Maldives, UK are expected to take part while most shuttlers from India. Apart from Viren Sri Lanka young shuttler 18 year old Aashinsa Herath will take part at this Raipur tournament and both of them were at the Bangalore tournament.

Viren is set to play his first game tomorrow while Aashinsa Herath who was back home after Bangalore tournament reached Raipur yesterday to take part in this tournament.

Viren is making good progress heading to get Olympic qualification and this tournament points also very vital to reach that qualifying standard.

Viren Nettasinghe is the player to watch at this Raipur tournament and his present form give him advantage to go forward said Ajith Wijayasinghe who is a former International Badminton referee and present Secretary of SLB. Ajith Wijayasinghe was at Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy, Bangalore to asses referees and left to Guwahati for the Badminton referees seminar yesterday.

Viren Nettasinghe is highly recommend as next Sri Lanka Olympian Badminton player and SLB making all efforts to reach that target, he said.
