The Consumer Affairs Authority has announced that raids will be conducted to identify traders selling rice above the Government-mandated Maximum Retail Price (MRP). The Authority has issued a gazette notification setting the maximum retail prices for rice as Rs. 210 per kilogramme for Kakulu rice, Rs. 220 per kilogramme for Nadu rice, and Rs. 230 per kilogramme for Samba rice.
Consumer Affairs Authority Chairman Hemantha Samarakoon stated that these enforcement actions began yesterday (10) following the new rice price regulations. He emphasised that anyone selling rice above these stipulated prices will face legal action.
The Chairman urged traders, producers, and wholesalers to adhere to the set prices and requested consumers to report any violations to the Consumer Affairs Authority hotline 1977. This ensures that any malpractice or overpricing can be promptly addressed.
