Trains between Ambepussa and Alawwa single-track from 1–5 April

The Railway Department has announced that train operations between Ambepussa and Alawwa will be limited to a single track from April 1 to 5 to facilitate permanent repairs to the Bujjomuwa bridge.
The restriction follows damage caused by Cyclone “Ditwah,” which led to the collapse of an old brick arch culvert at the site, creating a cavity of about 45 feet beneath the track.
Due to the damage, trains have so far been operating over a temporary bridge at a speed limit of 10 kmph.
The department said that on April 1 to 4, two trains operating between Colombo Fort and Rambukkana will be curtailed up to Ambepussa.
In addition, two Colombo Fort–Rambukkana trains scheduled for April 2 will be cancelled.
Passengers travelling on services from Colombo Fort to Rambukkana, Mahawa, Trincomalee and Batticaloa have been advised to expect delays during this period. (NewsWire)
