Travel ban against Minister Keheliya lifted in SLRC case

The Colombo High Court was yesterday ordered to temporarily lift the travel ban imposed against Environment Minister Keheliya Rambukwella for allegedly causing an unlawful loss to the government by misusing public funds belonging to the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC) by purchasing 600 GI pipes. Following a request made by the accused seeking permission to go abroad for an official duty, the Colombo High Court ordered to lift the travel ban imposed against the accused from November 30 to February 29, 2024.

The order was delivered when the case filed against three accused including Environment Minister Keheliya Rambukwella was taken up before Colombo High Court Judge Navaratne Marasinghe. The case will be taken up again on December 6. The Bribery Commission filed indictment in the Colombo High Court against Environment Minister Keheliya Rambukwella, former Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation Director General Liyanage Chandrapala and its Chairman Wimal Rupasinghe alleging that they have committed an offence of corruption under the Bribery Act during the period from November 25, 2014 to December 10, 2014, while Minister Keheliya acting as Mass Media Minister of causing loss to the Government by purchasing 600 GI pipes worth Rs.990,000 from funds belonging to the SLRC.

The case was filed against the accused under four counts under the Bribery Act and the Penal Code 26 prosecution witnesses and 17 items had been named as the productions of the case in the indictment.
