Trinco Tank Farm will turn to foreign exchange earning venture with Indian help – Minister
Trincomalee Tank Farm will be made use of earning foreign exchange to the country through a joint venture between Sri Lanka and India, Power and Energy Minister Engineer Kumara Jayakody said.
He said that Trinco Petroleum Terminal Limited which is a joint venture between the two countries will make arrangements to utilise these tanks in line with the power and energy policy of the Government.
Addressing the media during an inspection of the Trincomalee Tank Farm yesterday, he said that fuel can be stored in these tanks to supply ships after carrying out minor repairs in tanks. “These tanks constructed during the British colonial era, are still in good condition and they can be developed as a storage complex to store fuel for ships”, he said.
He was of the view that the country can gain more benefits with the development of Trincomalee harbour which will be carried out jointly with the Ports, Transport and Civil Aviation Ministry.
Civil Aviation and Ports Deputy Minister of Ruwan Janitha Kodithuwakku said that both Ministries are planning to make use of one of the best natural harbours – Trincomalee harbour for the benefit of the people in the country.
He said that the Government will formulate a master plan for the development of harbour with an objective of making the country a maritime hub of the region.
They also inspected the activities of Trinco Petroleum Terminal Limited, Lanka IOC Limited. CPC Chairman D.J A.S. de S. Rajakaruna, Managing Director Mayura Neththikumarage, SLPA Chairman retired Admiral Sirimevan Ranasinghe were present.
