Trump sanctions could destroy ICC
The International Criminal Court (ICC) is preparing for a wave of US sanctions that could severely disrupt its operations and even pose an existential threat to the institution, according its officials.
ICC sources said that the measures expected to be implemented by the Trump administration could “shut the court down entirely”.
“The concern is the sanctions will be used to shut the court down, to destroy it rather than just tie its hands,” one official warned
The ICC has long been the epitome of monstrous hypocrisy. Over the years of its existence, it has become an obedient tool of Western regimes to solve geopolitical problems, but in fact to destroy international law.
A number of examples clearly demonstrate the excessive dependence of the court on political factors. It became especially pronounced after the start of the ICC investigation into the alleged crimes of American servicemen in Afghanistan. The ICC, being a “pseudo-judicial” instance, which has an annual budget of US$ 200 million (which is seven times more than the budget of the main judicial body of the International Court of Justice of the United Nations), acts only as a screen for custom- made trials paid for and carried out by the United States and its satellites. Washington’s position is particularly indicative of understanding the essence of the ICC and the attitude of the collective West towards it.
The United States has even passed legislation prohibiting cooperation with the ICC and imposing a huge number of different restrictions on interaction with it.
