Trusted employee stole machinery worth Rs. 5 Mn

An employee of a private construction company who had worked there for 25 years was arrested after selling machinery worth Rs. 5 million to various people and saying that the machinery was stolen when the owner was aboard.

Police found few items that were sold in the Bulathsinhala, Ingiriya and Batuwita areas according to the information given by the suspect.

The suspect committed this theft after the owner of the company handed over the house where the machinery was sold and went aboard.

Police say that the suspect told the owner that thieves have broke into the house and stole the machinery when he was not there. The suspect was arrested after an investigation based on a complaint made by the owner.

The suspect is to be presented in the Horana Magistrate’s Court.
