Following a formal investigation into a Rs. 1.4 billion financial fraud linked to a fraudulent tender process, the Board of Directors of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has dismissed two senior officials and suspended another over separate financial misconduct allegations.
At a recent board meeting, it was confirmed that Deputy General Manager, Engineer Nishantha Patabendige, was directly involved in the fraudulent tender process in 2023. Out of 33 charges brought against him, he was found guilty of 31.
Similarly, CEB’s Media Manager, Vajirapani Bandaranaike, faced 39 charges, of which he was found guilty of 34. As a result, the Board decided to terminate both officials from service.
In addition, Additional Finance Manager and Accountant Thushari Trimawaithana has been suspended over allegations of financial misconduct related to the misuse of a vehicle and an unauthorized loan from the Provident Fund. This action follows findings from a preliminary investigation conducted by the CEB’s Special Investigation Unit.
The Board of Directors made these decisions after reviewing the Special Investigation Unit’s report and its recommendations.
