Police Narcotics Bureau said that they have arrested a suspect and the mother of a drug trafficker along with a gold bracelet and over Rs.50 million earned from drug trafficking.
The arrested suspects are 34 and 67 year olds and they were arrested in Bandaragama and Alubomulla areas.
According to the information received by the Police Narcotics Bureau regarding an exchange of money earned from drug trafficking using bank accounts and other drug-related transactions, the suspect was arrested after an investigation after reporting these facts to the Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court.
After observing that the bank account of a person is being credited with an unusual amount of money, Police began investigating the details of this account holder, and it has been revealed that they opened the bank account using a fake ID card and a fake address.
Police arrested the suspect near a bank in the Bandaragama area, and through the interrogations of that suspect, Police arrested the mother of the main trafficker along with the money.
A senior Police officer said that the gold bracelet was sent to the Gem and Jewellery Authority for quality inspection.
The suspects will be produced before the Panadura Magistrate’s Court and detention orders will be obtained. The Police Narcotics Bureau is investigating.
