Two in custody over Mt. Lavinia Court shooting

The Police Special Task Force arrested a man (27) along with his mistress (37) over the shooting that took place at the Mt. Lavinia Court premises on August 4, on Saturday (20).

According to the STF, they have been identified as the suspects who provided information about the targeted person to the shooters through WhatsApp from inside the courtroom.

The targeted person is said to be an informant who had provided information about the drug network of underworld Kingpin ‘Harak Kata’ to the STF. STF officers arrested the duo at Kanduboda, Delgoda in the Biyagama police area. During the interrogation, the suspects had revealed that the information about the targeted person was provided to carry out this shooting based on a request made by Harak Kata who is currently in Dubai and the shooting was carried out by another person on the instructions of Ruwan Jayasena, an accomplice of Karak Kata who is also in Dubai. The targeted person had appeared in the court on that day to participate in the hearing of a financial fraud case against him. He had been accompanied by this 27-year-old suspect, who is also an accused of that case.

The information about the dress and the seat number the targeted person was sitting had been sent by the male suspect from inside the courtroom to the female suspect who was outside the court premises and she had forwarded them to Ruwna Jayasena through WhatsApp.

STF investigations were also able to recover four grams and 520 milligrams of heroin in the possession of the suspects.

The STF is conducting further investigations.
