Two including SLAF Airman arrested over firearm theft

Two persons, including an Air Force Airman, were arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in connection with the theft of a T-56 firearm and 60 bullets from a guard room in ‘Bravo 8’ Air Force Camp in Sigiriya.

The stolen firearm and the bullets were also recovered.The theft had occurred on the night of November 4, 2022. The Air Force had complained to the Sigiriya Police after a search operation in the camp.

The suspects aged 32 and 37 and are residents of Indulgodakanda, Kurunegala and Rideevihara Mawatha, Rideegama.Police said the firearm had not been used to commit any crime.The suspects were to be produced before the Dambulla Magistrate’s Court.
