After carrying out an investigation over the disappearance of the cool boxes in two KDH type vans purchased by the Education Ministry and given to the Central Provincial Education Department, it has been recommended to recover their value from Tilak Ekanayaka, who was the Director of Central Provincial Education and M.B. Ekanayaka, who was the officer in charge of vehicles at that time.
Investigations revealed that these cool boxes were missing during the years 2015-2020. An audit query was also issued in this regard. At the time of purchase of these vehicles, two cool boxes were provided for both the vehicles by the vehicle import and distribution company as a promotional function.
An investigation was initiated by the Education Ministry regarding the absence of the two cool boxes in both the vehicles.
After calculating the value of these two cool boxes as Rs. 58,500, it has been decided that two thirds of the value should be paid by the officer in charge of vehicles and one part by the former Director of Education.
In an inquiry made in this regard, Amarasiri Piyadasa, the Director of Central Provincial Education, said that according to the investigation carried out regarding the loss of the cool boxes, it has been recommended to recover their value from the two officials.
