Two STF officers attacked during raid hospitalized

Rambukkana Police officers arrested four people including an alleged drug trafficker, who attacked and injured two officers of the Police Special Task Force (STF) who were on a drug raid.

Police information revealed that the drug trafficker’s mother, sister and younger brother are among those who have been arrested. The sister is a 34-year-old school teacher and the younger brother is a 25-year-old Sabaragamuwa University student. The mother is 59-years-old.

The main suspect is a 34-year-old man and an operation to arrest him was launched on Monday (23) by a team of officers including Inspector Wedage of the Special Task Force’s Narambada Camp.

Accordingly, two officers of the Police Special Task Force were deployed as decoys sent to the drug trafficker’s house to buy drugs. When the suspect was bringing drugs the two officers had arrested him and were going to handcuff him.

Then the family members had attacked the two officers with clubs and the drug trafficker had stabbed them causing injuries, Police said.

The two officers of the Police Special Task Force were seriously injured and have been admitted to the Kegalle Hospital for treatment.

Rambukkana Police had arrested the suspects.
