Two transporting cannabis held in Jaffna

A search operation mounted by Navy and Police in Naranthane area of the Kayts Island, Jaffna led to the apprehension of two suspects for transporting over three kgs of cannabis on Saturday (25). Along with cannabis being transported for sale, a motorbike used for this illegal activity was also seized.

During the operation carried out by SLNS Kanchadewa in the Northern Naval Command with the assistants of Kayts Police in Naranthane area, a motorcycle on the road was searched on suspicion and three kgs and 592g of cannabis in two parcels were found from the possession of two suspects who were transporting them.

The street value of the stock of cannabis is believed to be over Rs. one million.

The suspects were identified as residents of Mannar and Kayts, aged 27 and 34, and the suspects along with motorcycle and cannabis were handed over to the Kayts Police for onward legal action.
