UDA prepares development plans for 172 towns

The Urban Development Authority (UDA) will prepare 172 development plans targeting the development of urban and rural areas covering 204 Local Government bodies before 2025.

Spokesmen from the UDA said that 21 development plans out of 172 are to be gazetted this year.

The Kuruwita development plan was gazetted last March. According to the UDA, relevant Gazettes publishing the development plans for Pelmadulla and Kahawatta will be issued next week.

In addition, development plans for Rambukkana, Kuliyapitiya, Thalawa, Kekirawa, Welimada, Bandarawela, Wellawaya, Nawalapitiya, Kundasale, Gampola, Vavuniya, Kilinochchi, Ambalangoda, Matara, Katana-Seeduwa, Ja-ela, Wattala-Mabola, Gampaha and Mahara will be Gazetted this year.

UDA also expresses confidence that the development plans of Nuwara Eliya and Arugambay will be published through the Gazette before the end of this year.

It has already published 32 development plans through the Gazette during the period from 2021 to 2022. Meanwhile, nine development plans have been published by the Gazette in the last year. They are Kantale, Dehiwala-Mount Lavinia, Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte, Maharagama, Homagama, Kesbewa, Nuwara Eliya, Dambulla and Colombo.
