UN Resident Coordinator Commends Sri Lanka’s Efforts to Strengthen Rule of Law and Combat Corruption

A meeting between the UN Resident Coordinator in Sri Lanka, Marc-André Franche, and the Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs, Ananda Wijepala, took place today (21).

It was held at the Ministry of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs, located in the Suhurupaya premises in Battaramulla.

On behalf of the UN, Marc-André Franche expressed his happiness over the new government’s efforts. He also expressed his appreciation for the steps taken to establish the rule of law and eradicate corruption and stated that the UN will support the efforts. Moreover, a number of important political and social issues, including building unity among nations, were discussed.

The Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs, Mr. Ananda Wijepala, and the Secretary to the Ministry, Mr. Ravi Seneviratne, represented the Ministry of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs, and the UN Resident Coordinator in Sri Lanka, Mr. Marc-André Franche, the UN Peace and Development Advisor, Mr. Patrick Mc Carthy, and the Peace and Development Analyst, Ms. Nethmini Medawala, represented the United Nations.
