CID told to arrest all officers:
Maligakanda Magistrate Lochana Abeywickrama ordered yesterday (1) that the owner of the Sri Lankan company, who was arrested on charges of importing vials of immunoglobulin from India by presenting false documents, be remanded till November 15.
The owner of the suspected company, Janaka Fernando (54), was ordered to be remanded till November 15 by the Maligakanda Magistrate after being produced before the Court yesterday.
The Magistrate also ordered the CID to arrest all the officers responsible for the transaction, which is said to have been carried out without a procurement process, regardless of their status.
The Magistrate also ordered that all related documents be taken into the custody of the CID regardless of the rank of the officer, the CID was also ordered to obtain the advice of the Attorney General in this regard and a representation of the Attorney General be submitted to Court the next day.
The Magistrate, ordered the Health Director General to store the stock of questionable vaccines that have been removed from use in the prescribed standard and under environmental conditions until they are sent to a laboratory based on the request made by the Criminal Investigation Department.
The Medical Supply Division was ordered to send a report to the Court and the Criminal Investigation Department containing the reasons for sealing the manufacturing plant in Seeduwa belonging to the suspect manufacturing these vaccines are located.
