Upul Tharanga tipped to head new Selection Committee

Sports Minister Harin Fernando is expected to name new National Cricket Selection Committee and his vision is to make this committee from recently retired cricketers from the International cricket.

Former National opening batsman Upul Tharanga is tipped to be name chairman of the selection committee while Ajantha Mendis , Dilruwan Perera and Tharanga Paranawithna are the other members of this committee and still Sports Minister not yet approvedr these names .. Upul Tharanga still involved with first class cricket playing for NCC while Dilruwan Perera also involved in first class cricket while Paranawithna is the Moose SC head coach. If they are appointed as selection committee they have to retire from first class cricket and Paranawithana has to stop his coaching duty.

When Daily News contacted SLC senior official yesterday said SLC already has sent name list to Sports Minister which has still not being approved.

However chairman of the National selection committee Promodya Wickramasinghe and his two members Hemantha Wickramaratne and Romesh Kaluwitharana have not been informed about their removal from the selection committee and they are expected to focus on next Zimbabwe cricket series in January.
