Ven. Omalpe Sobitha Thera said that he is thankful to the Government, the Ceylon Electricity Board, and the Public Utilities Commission for reducing the electricity bill.
He also pointed out that even though the electricity bill has been reduced by 22 percent as a whole, the public demanded a 33 percent reduction in the electricity bill.
The Ven. Thera said that more than 200 local industries had to be closed due to high electricity bills, and people including civil organizations had to protest asking for relief in electricity bills.
Ven. Sobitha Thera further said that there is a need for a successful programme to recover the collapsed local industries and that the Government should work to help the people who have lost their jobs and provide them relief. He pointed out the necessity of working with confidence in improving renewable energy in the future.
