Anil Bhareti, a senior singer who nurtured the music industry in the country, has passed away.He was 75 years old at the time of his death.
He passed away today (22) while receiving treatment at the Panadura Hospital due to a brief illness.
It is noteworthy that most of the songs sung by Anil Bharathi were Christmas songs.Among them, the song Beth Lehem Pure – Dilindu Gawa Lene had become famous among fans.
Anil, who was educated at the Prince of Wales College, Moratuwa, worked at the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) for 50 years and also worked as a news anchor and program presenter.He also held the position of Director of SLBC.
Bhareti started his musical career as the English singer of the Golden Chimes band in the early 1970s, worked harmoniously with the band’s leader Clarence Wijewardene.
He earned a special place in the music world in the 1970s and 1980s by singing many popular songs including “Bethlehempure”, “Adavei Irudina”, “Rosie Mege Rosie”, “Tikirimali”, “Sithala Sanda Eliye”, “Awa Soys Jehona”, “Bambareku Anduna”, “Dasa Vidala”, “Hiru Upadana Vita”, “Isurumuni”, “Nuwara Wewe”, “Rosie Mege Rosie”, “Sithala Sanda Eliye”, “Suduweli Paare” and many more.
Anil Bharathi, who has been a popular Sri Lankan Christmas singer since the 1970s, rose to fame after singing the song “Bethlehempure” composed by Karunaratne Abeysekara. The song, composed by Clarence Wijewardene, was recorded under the Lotus label.
