Vijayakala injured in van crash

Former State Minister Vijayakala Maheshwaran and three others were injured in a vehicle accident at Mangalaeliya in Mundalama on the Colombo-Puttalam road in the early hours of yesterday.

Maheshvaran was admitted to the Mundalama district hospital and transferred to the Chilaw general hospital.However, a spokesman for the hospital said she was out of danger.

Police said the van she was travelling in had veered off the road and had crashed into a wall. The van had sustained severe damages but the driver and the other three including the former state minister had sustained only minor injuries. The Police are investigating the accident.
