President elect Anura Kumara Dissanayake yesterday said that conducting a free and fair election sans of any kind of major election violation is a major victory.

“The post election violence is very minimum at this election,”he said. The NPP leader added that the way of conducting election needs to be changed and the way of celebrating the victory should also be changed,” he added.

He was addressing the gathering which included Presidential candidates after official announcement of elections results by the Election Commission Chairman at the latter’s office in Rajagiriya yesterday night.

Dissanayake said that the culture of celebration of a victory that create fear psychosis to the loser should end.

He said that they are ready to work with other parties for the benefit of the country. “All have a responsibility to create better political culture”, he added.

He stated that the country is experiencing instability in economic, political, and international spheres.”The mandate of the people lays the groundwork for addressing the pressing issues within the country.”

“During the past few years, the people’s mandate has been distorted.If the country needs to march forward, she should have a government based on people’s mandate.

He thanked the Election Commission for conducting a free and fair election. He also said that amendments would be brought to the existing laws to portray the public opinion of the people clearly.
