Weapons, ammunition found inside well

The security forces in Kilinochchi yesterday recovered a large quantity of military weapons and over a thousand rounds of ammunition from a well in the Paranthan area of Kilinochchi.

When the land owner went to clean his well, he had seen a part of a firearm and informed the Kilinochchi police about his find. Later, the police, with an order from the Kilinochchi court, emptied the well, and found the stock of military equipment and ammunition packed inside barrels.

Among the weapons found were LMG type firearms, AK 47 and T-56 type firearms, chargers and detonators and a large amount of ammunition. The Kilinochchi Police were not able to confirm as to whom the weapons and ammunition belonged to. However, the people of the area were of the view that the weapons may have been hidden by the LTTE, as they left the area in a hurry, when the military advanced on Paranthan, during the war. The Kilinochchi Police are conducting further investigations.
